Street Shots #157

"Digital Photo"

This is a billboard over a parking lot on 10th Avenue. There is no text, just the photo. Clearly, a quality bit and someone spent a fair piece of change to create it and probably lots more to stick it there. I have no idea what it is trying to sell. Or even if it is intended to sell something. Which leads me to think that either: 1. I am not part of the targeted demographic, or 2. I just don’t get it. On the other hand, I found it to be a striking piece. Maybe even a bit disturbing.  Or maybe it was the way I shot it.

Later, looking at the photo, I decided it could use a title. Given my lack of understanding of the image, I turned the job over to a diverse group of critics, most of whom couldn't care less, so to sweeten the deal - and to motivate their contributions - I offered a hi res scan to the winner, whereby said winner could make a print to own, to admire and to possibly cover a stain on a bathroom wall.

The hands down winner (OK, I couldn’t resist……….actually “Hands Down Winner” could have been a contender………..), the winner is my dear friend and occasional lawyer. I mean, he is a dear friend and is also a lawyer who I occasionally call on for legal stuff, which he is very good at. And he has, despite my admonition to the contrary, allowed himself to be noted by his full name: Stan Shapiro (better known in some circles as “Anne’s Husband”).  And now the world knows.

Runner up caption was even harder to pick on account of the huge number of thoughtful and creative submissions...... yeah, right.  Anyway, this winner is ‘Finger Lickin’ Good,’  submitted by my dentist, ‘Painless Doc Jay,’ also a fine guy. He got a scan too.

Finally, a special Honorable Mention to Steve R. aka "The Guy Passed Out In HIs Tent" - my Cave Howling Brother who submitted a whole bunch of weird suggestions and is still bugging me about not winning.  So there, he should live and be well..............

Registration is open to become part of the next voting panel.

meantime, back at the art galleries,
we answer the question:
is it art?

or did you come here to be insulted?

.......or are the photographs just hung upside down?

Keep an eye on that billboard - I've seen billboards before with no text, and after a few weeks of letting people wonder they add the text.
