Self Portrait With Airplane

Somebody once sent me to some island in the Caribbean to shoot some photos at some resort. Among other things the client wanted some aerial shots of the golf course. They supplied a plane that was usually used to bring in supplies. It had a single engine, was very small and had clearly seen better days. There was only one seat and the pilot had first claim to it, so I sat behind him on a crate of oil cans. There also was no seat belt for me so I was tied in with a piece of rope that ran through a hole in one of the cabin struts. We took the door off before take off so I would have a clear view. In order to shoot I had to kind of stand, bent over in the doorway. My rope wasn’t very long, so once we were airborne, I had to untie it in order to get to the door.

At the time, this all seemed like a good idea.
