PhotoExpo 2013: "Something Old, Something New, Something Stupid, Something Stupider........And Don't Forget The Dumb Stuff:

According to their web site, this week's annual PhotoPlusExpo here in New York City promised to be “The largest photography and imaging show in North America, attended by over 24,000 professional photographers and enthusiasts.”

And I would also have the chance to:”Explore over 250 exhibits, see thousands of new products, attend conference seminars, keynote presentations, special events & much more.”

Yeah, right.

"Find out why thousands of photographers from around the world attend PhotoPlus Expo.”

Best of all is the chance to meet with top industry professionals who are always happy to share their expertise and demonstrate new products...........:

Most memorable moment for me was my visit to the tiny Kodak booth, stuck way, way in the back. And getting a free roll of genuine Kodak film from the same guy who gave me a free roll of film last year.

Bit of a step down from past shows especially when you figure that these are the same folks who pretty much invented photography. Time was they occupied one of the biggest and most expensive pieces of real estate at this show. Then there was that silly business about Kodak sitting on digital photography for all those years. See, rumor has it they were making all that money on film and paper and photo chemicals and they were afraid that digital photos would kill all of that, so they didn't even try to get into the game. Or maybe Kodak was really committed to the principal of preserving silver emulsion imagery at all costs? But then they started peddling all that crappy “grey market” film from odd places around the world. And then telling the pro market to screw off.......

Ah, well, it is nice to see that they are still trying.

And nice to say hello to the same Kodak guy.
