One
of the great things about living in Manhattan is that folks can get
away with doing stuff on the streets here that would get them
arrested in other places. Maybe even excommunicated or burned at the
stake. Maybe all 3. Maybe that's why so many people want to live
here. Or just come here to do stuff they can't get away with back
home. And what ever your particular thing might be, chances are you can always
find like minded folks to do it with you, to you or for you. Like last weekend's annual public gathering
of leather, latex and pain management, a/k/a The Folsom Street East
Fair (“Your friendly neighborhood S&M Street Fair!”). I have
been shooting the event for many years. It is just plain fun. This
year I suspect that things have become a bit tamer. Either that, or
I have become a bit more jaded. Maybe because 'community pressure'
forced them to have to end the party before dark. Whatever, there
were lots of friendly people who didn't mind having their pictures
taken and lots of interesting stuff for sale – even if I wasn't
quite sure about some of it. It was the second day of summer, the
first day of 'Gay Pride Week' and a good time was had by all. Even
the guy getting whipped seemed to be enjoying it.
