Sounds Of The City

One of the great things about this place is the stuff people do. Some cool stuff and most  not so cool. But for sure lots and lots of it. I usually find stuff when I am not looking for it. I first saw this when I was going to the Entenmann's Store in Steinway Avenue in Queens. The Avenue is named after the Steinway piano factory, which is named after the Steinway family. I think the factory is still someplace nearby. I once photographed John Steinway who I think is no longer around, but when he wasn't making piano's, he was an amature photographer. He even had a darkroom in Steinway Hall in Manhattan. I know 'cause he once showed it to me. He was a cool guy. I didn't tell him that I never really cared for piano music.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I went out to the Entenmann's Store and down the street, I got to meet the artist who was just finishing this wall. He's Mexican. The face in the wall is a friend of his who is Italian. I don't think he knew who Steinway was, but we talked a bit anyway as he worked. This weekend, I passed by again. Entenmann's is a food group in our house. The artist guy wasn't around, but this was.  Mega cool.

Then, there is this.  Just to keep my perspective in balance.
