One of the great things about this
place is the stuff people do. Some cool stuff and most not so cool. But for sure lots and lots of it. I usually find stuff when I am not looking for
it. I first saw this when I was going to the Entenmann's Store in
Steinway Avenue in Queens. The Avenue is named after the Steinway
piano factory, which is named after the Steinway family. I think the
factory is still someplace nearby. I once photographed John Steinway
who I think is no longer around, but when he wasn't making piano's,
he was an amature photographer. He even had a darkroom in Steinway
Hall in Manhattan. I know 'cause he once showed it to me. He was a cool guy. I didn't tell him that I never really cared for piano
music.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I went out to
the Entenmann's Store and down the street, I got to meet the artist who was just
finishing this wall. He's Mexican. The face in the wall is a friend
of his who is Italian. I don't think he knew who Steinway was, but we
talked a bit anyway as he worked. This weekend, I passed by again. Entenmann's is a food group in our house. The artist guy wasn't around, but this was. Mega cool.
Then, there is this. Just to keep my perspective in balance.
