As
we gather in celebration today, consider the fact that 56% of
Americans can not cite a single fact about the Declaration of
Independence. On the other hand, the majority of our population can
name at least one of the Kardashians and two of the ingredients in Long
Island Iced Tea.
In
a few months we will have the opportunity to elect a new President.
The ballots will, by law, be printed in multiple languages. Literacy
in any of those languages (or any other language) is not
required in order to cast a vote.
I
have no doubt that on that election day millions of Americans will
exercise their freedom to not vote by drinking Long Island Iced Tea. And possibly discussing the Kardashians.
