These are tourists on a freezing morning on 7th Avenue. They are lining up in front of the Carnegie Delicatessen. The status of the Carnegie as a genuine deli is debatable, but these folks don't know that. There is also a rumor that the place will close in a few weeks. Yeah, right.
Anyway, after a wait that could approach several hours, these visitors to our fair City will be permitted to purchase a pastrami sandwich for $35.00 (plus tax and tip). Many will probably take cell phone photos of – and with - with their sandwiches and send the images to less fortunate acquaintances back home. None will notice that there are no New Yorker's eating there. We are passing outside and some of us are pissed off at the putzes blocking our sidewalk. A few however are silently thanking them for giving us to something to chuckle about and several may offer to sell them discount tickets on the Staten Island Ferry while they wait.
